During the later years of his life, Sir Henry Royce spent each winter at his private residence on the French Riviera. The villa, named La Mimosa, was built in the hills above the village of Le Canadel in 1911, after Sir Henry had visited the area during a period of rest after the intense effort of establishing Rolls-Royce’s manufacturing base at Nightingale Road, Derby. From the very beginning, Rolls-Royce has been defined not only by elegance, craftsmanship and superlative engineering, but by individualism, rebellion and a willingness to defy convention. This spirit was embodied by the marque’s founders themselves. That same spirit of self-expression and creative defiance has echoed through Rolls-Royce’s history ever since. It found its most contemporary and powerful expression in Black Badge, the marque’s alter ego.
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has completed a significant phase in the construction of its extension at Goodwood, with the new building now formally declared fully weathertight. To mark the occasion, Chief Executive Chris Brownridge and the Board of Directors hand-signed the final one of 1,745 wooden louvres fitted to the side of the 40,000 m2 building.
Throughout 2025, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has celebrated the centenary of its pinnacle product and the most famous nameplate in luxury history: Phantom. These celebrations focused on the people, places and events that shaped Phantom’s incredible story, and how this extraordinary motor car has both reflected and influenced the world around it.
This Press Kit provides an overview of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ unique, immensely rich heritage, from the first meeting in May 1904 between its founders, Sir Henry Royce and The Hon. Charles Stewart Rolls, to its contemporary activities at the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood.
For 100 years, Phantom has been recognised as the ultimate symbol of success and discernment, chosen by the world’s most influential figures. As this legendary nameplate celebrates its 100th anniversary, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars pays tribute with the Phantom Centenary Private Collection, limited to 25 examples.
The story of Phantom spans 100 years, and the entire world. Today, Phantom owners can be found in over 100 countries on six continents, with each individual motor car commissioned to satisfy both its owner’s personal tastes and codes of luxury, and the specific conditions and surroundings in which it operates.
Rolls-Royce has been associated with the greatest names in contemporary art since its foundation. Masters including Salvador Dalí, Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Christian ‘Bébé’ Bérard and Cecil Beaton all travelled by Rolls-Royce. However, it is Phantom, the marque’s pinnacle product which celebrates its centenary in 2025, that is most closely linked to the art world.
From 28 July to 3 August, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars returns to the French Riviera with a series of client experiences in Saint-Tropez. The marque will host private appointments, curated drive opportunities, and private gatherings in a number of landmark destinations, including La Réserve and Althoff Villa Belrose.
Rolls-Royce has marked a major milestone in the development of its new extension at the Home of Rolls-Royce, Goodwood. In a formal ceremony, members of the company’s Board of Directors signed the final steel beam to be installed in the building’s internal structure, before it was lifted into place at the structure’s highest point.
Chris Brownridge, Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, marked the official start of above-ground construction of the new main building by signing the first steel column erected on the company’s extension site at Goodwood.
Within the Home of Rolls-Royce, world-class craftspeople bring a wealth of experience, skill, creativity and attention to detail to their work. These artisans, together with the marque’s Bespoke designers and engineers, form what is known as the Bespoke Collective. This talented and passionate group of people is constantly pushing boundaries in their quest for perfection, bringing clients’ dreams to life.
The final instalment in the ‘Makers of the Marque’ series honours Eric Platford who was central and fundamental to the marque’s early success. The latest instalment in the Models of the Marque series celebrates Phantom VI, the final Rolls-Royce offered as a rolling chassis. Produced from 1968 to 1993, it represents the pinnacle of traditional coachbuilt bodywork. Phantom VI combined timeless craftsmanship with engineering evolution. Beloved by royalty, it stands as a lasting symbol of luxury and exclusivity in the marque’s history.
Rolls-Royce has announced an investment exceeding £300m to extend its manufacturing facility at Goodwood.
